New Western Market, or which can be afforded by the addition of a market on the site of the old Harbour Office which
is a very small one.
The Sanitary Board has therefore recommend-
-ed that the proposal to utilise the site of the old
Harbour Office as a market be abandoned and that a new
market be constructed on the site of the old Western
Market. I enclose an extract from a report by the Head of
Sanitary Department on the subject which goes to show that
the building will be a very remunerative one. Plans and
estimate of it will be forwarded in due course. The cost
will probably not exceed $268,000 exclusive of a proposed
resumption upon which I shall address Your Lordship in a
subsequent Despatch. The site of the old Harbour Office
will not be required for market purposes.
(d). Yaumati English School, additional
storey, $16,000. To meet an increased demand for
admission, it has been decided to add another storey to
the existing building which was originally designed to
bear this additional weight. The proposed storey will
accommodate 200 more pupils, from whom fees amounting to
$6,000 a year are expected. The cost of extra staff (which
will fall upon the Estimates for 1912) is roughly estimated
at $3,000 a year, and plans of this work are enclosed.
(e). Yaumati Disinfecting Station, stables,
$10,000. These stables are for the accomodation of
bullocks
